Whitebox County Senior Hurling Championship - Round 5

At TBC · Limerick

Whitebox County Senior Hurling Championship

Club hurling at its fiercest is what you get at a Limerick Senior Hurling Championship round fixture, and this Group 2 clash between Patrickswell and Kildimo-Pallaskenry on a September Thursday carries real weight for both clubs. Patrickswell, the most decorated club in Limerick hurling history with 20 county titles to their name, find themselves in Group 2 after a difficult run of results - meaning this fixture is far from a formality for a club that has produced some of the county’s greatest names. Kildimo-Pallaskenry, a merged club that only won promotion to the senior grade in 2020, will be eager to show they belong at this level. It is the kind of mid-season championship fixture that local GAA lives on: no frills, just hurling.

What to expect

Round 5 of the Whitebox County Senior Hurling Championship group stage, with both Patrickswell and Kildimo-Pallaskenry competing in Group 2. Both clubs will be playing for position as the knockout stages approach. Expect fast, physical hurling - Limerick club championship games are contested at a high tempo, reflecting the county’s tradition as a hurling stronghold. The throw-in is at noon, so it is an early start. As with most midweek club championship fixtures in Limerick, the venue will be confirmed by the clubs closer to the date - check the Limerick GAA website or the clubs’ social media pages for the confirmed ground. The game is free to attend, as is standard for club championship fixtures in the county. Patrickswell’s home ground is Páirc Antóin O’Briain, roughly 10km south of Limerick city, while Kildimo-Pallaskenry are based in Pallaskenry on the north bank of the Shannon estuary.

Getting there

Limerick city is the main hub, sitting at the junction of the M7 and M20 motorways with good road links from Dublin, Cork, and Galway. The venue for this fixture is to be confirmed, but both clubs are within 20-25 minutes of the city by car. Bus Eireann runs regular services from Limerick city towards Patrickswell and along the Shannon estuary corridor. If you are travelling from outside Limerick, the city itself is well served by Irish Rail from Dublin Heuston and Cork Kent, with the station on Parnell Street in the city centre. For club grounds, parking is generally available in adjacent fields or car parks on the day.

While you’re in Limerick

A weekday GAA fixture is a good excuse to spend a few hours in Limerick city before or after. The medieval quarter around King John’s Castle, the Hunt Museum, and the riverside walk along the Shannon give you more than enough to fill a morning or afternoon. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
