At University Concert Hall · University of Limerick, Limerick
A free lunchtime concert for people living with dementia and the people who care for them - this is Music in Good Company, a summer series created by Music & Health Ireland and hosted at University Concert Hall (UCH) in Limerick. The July date is the final concert in three across May, June and July 2026, and it follows the same warm formula: a one-hour gathering at noon, with live music chosen for its power to spark memories, invite sing-alongs and ease the particular kind of isolation that dementia can bring. If you or someone you love has a diagnosis, or you are a carer looking for something genuinely supportive to do together mid-week, this is worth the trip.
The performers are Nuala Kennedy, Maeve Donnelly and Seán Lyons, a trio spanning traditional song, fiddle and complementary instruments. The repertoire leans into folk and traditional Irish music - familiar tunes and songs chosen for comfort rather than spectacle. Audiences are encouraged to join in: clapping, singing along, standing if the mood takes you. The mood is relaxed and the staff at UCH are well used to making all guests feel at ease from the moment they arrive.
Each concert runs for one hour and admission is free, though spaces are limited so you need to book in advance. UCH itself is a well-appointed 1,038-seat concert hall on the University of Limerick campus, refurbished in recent years with comfortable seating, a decent bar and Allegro Café for a coffee or light bite beforehand. The acoustics are designed to be adjustable across genres, which means folk and trad music sound genuinely warm in the room.
University Concert Hall sits on the University of Limerick campus, about 5km east of Limerick city centre via the N18 and Castletroy. By car from Dublin take the M7 to the Limerick ring road and follow signs for the University. From Cork take the M20 north. Bus Éireann Route 304 runs from Limerick Bus Station (Colbert Station) to the UL campus, with stops close to UCH. There is ample free parking at UCH in the Foundation car park directly in front of the building.
Limerick city centre is well worth time before or after the concert - King John’s Castle on the banks of the Shannon and the Hunt Museum are both within easy reach, and the city has a strong food scene along Thomas Street. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
