David Nihill - Taking Tangents Tour

At Lime Tree Theatre · Mary Immaculate College, Courtbrack Avenue, Limerick

David Nihill Taking Tangents Tour promotional image

Dublin-born comedian David Nihill left Ireland at 22 and has since lived in twelve countries and visited over seventy - and his new show, Taking Tangents, makes full use of all of it. Winner of the San Francisco Comedy Competition and named Best International Act at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Nihill has built a following of more than two million on social media and racked up over 500 million video views. This is a live show, though, and it is a very different thing. The Lime Tree Theatre on the evening of 3 September 2026 is where Limerick gets its chance to see what the fuss is about.

What to expect

Taking Tangents is Nihill’s fourth major show, following his Dry Bar Comedy specials Documented (2019), Cultural Appreciation (2023), and his award-winning Shelf Help (2025). The title is a genuine description of how the evening moves - long, roaming anecdotes that drift off in unexpected directions before snapping back to the point. His material is built from real experience: language lessons that went nowhere, cross-cultural misunderstandings, life as a mildly confused immigrant navigating places where nothing works the way you expect. His style is warm and self-deprecating rather than sharp-edged, with what reviewers have called an astute Irish sensibility and a tongue-in-cheek delivery. An 18+ show.

The venue itself is worth noting. The Lime Tree Theatre opened in 2012 as part of Mary Immaculate College’s TARA building and seats 510. It is a proper performing arts house - good sightlines, good acoustics - that has brought Abbey Theatre and Druid Theatre Company productions back to Limerick after years away. For a stand-up night it is a comfortable and well-managed space.

Getting there

The Lime Tree Theatre sits on the Mary Immaculate College campus on Courtbrack Avenue, on the south side of Limerick city. By car from Dublin, take the M7 motorway west; the journey runs about two hours. From Cork, take the N20/M20 north - roughly one hour. On-campus parking is available. By rail, Limerick Colbert Station is served by direct trains from Dublin Heuston, Cork Kent, and Limerick Junction; the campus is a short taxi or bus ride from the station. Bus Eireann operates long-distance coaches to Limerick from most major towns.

While you’re in Limerick

Limerick has shifted considerably in recent years - the Treaty City has a strong arts and music scene, good independent restaurants along the quays, and King John’s Castle worth a look if you arrive early. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
