No Woman is an Island

At Lime Tree Theatre · Mary Immaculate College, Courtbrack Avenue, Limerick

No Woman is an Island theatrical production

Three years ago, a theatremaker set out to investigate something deceptively simple: a woman’s tireless pursuit of alone time. That investigation has become No Woman is an Island, a new production premiering at Lime Tree Theatre on Friday 4 September 2026. If you have ever felt the particular exhaustion of being needed constantly, or the guilty pleasure of closing a door and finally being left in peace, this show speaks directly to that experience. It suits anyone who enjoys new writing with an autobiographical edge - and anyone who has wondered why solitude feels like such a radical act for women.

What to expect

The show is a contemporary theatrical work built around themes of female identity, isolation, and interconnection. The title plays on John Donne’s famous line, but flips the premise: what if being an island is not a failure but a deep, recurring need? The production challenges conventional narratives about what women are supposed to want from their time and from each other. Expect personal storytelling, direct address, and the kind of theatre that sits with you on the drive home. Running on the Lime Tree’s main stage - a 510-seat proscenium venue - the scale gives this intimate subject room to breathe. Ticket prices and exact running time are available on the Lime Tree and Belltable website; booking in advance is the sensible call for any September opening weekend.

Getting there

Limerick city is well served from Dublin by Bus Eireann and GoBus (roughly two hours), and by Irish Rail on the Dublin Heuston to Limerick line. From Limerick train station or the city centre, the walk to Mary Immaculate College takes about 20 minutes along O’Connell Street and Henry Street; alternatively, the 304 bus from Sarsfield Street drops you at the Model School on O’Connell Avenue, a short walk from the college gates. If you are driving, there is on-campus parking off Courtbrack Avenue - the car park fills up about 15 to 20 minutes before curtain on busy nights, so arrive with time to spare. The barrier is raised after the show, so you will not pay to exit.

While you’re in Limerick

Limerick city has a strong arts culture, a compact and walkable city centre, and good restaurant options along the streets near the university quarter. September is a fine time to explore before the evenings shorten. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
