Thunder Rolls: The Garth Brooks Tribute Show

At Lime Tree Theatre · Mary Immaculate College, Courtbrack Avenue, Limerick

Thunder Rolls Garth Brooks Tribute Show promotional image

If you grew up listening to Garth Brooks on late-night radio, or simply know every word to “Friends in Low Places,” Thunder Rolls is the kind of evening that delivers exactly what it promises. This touring tribute show brings Brooks’ catalogue to life at Limerick’s Lime Tree Theatre, with a full live band and a performance built around the songs that made him one of the best-selling country artists of all time. It suits country music fans of any age, and anyone who wants a proper live night out without having to fly to Nashville.

What to expect

The show centres on Ireland’s Stephen Butler, who performs Brooks’ material in a style that draws close comparisons to the man himself. The set pulls from the full catalogue - expect “The Dance,” “Thunder Rolls,” “Unanswered Prayers,” “Beaches of Cheyenne,” and the inevitable singalong moment when “Friends in Low Places” kicks in. A full live band backs the performance, making this a concert rather than a karaoke-style impersonation act. The Lime Tree Theatre seats 510 people, which is large enough to feel like an event but small enough that there is no bad seat in the house. The venue is well set up for this kind of touring show - good sightlines, good acoustics.

Getting there

Lime Tree Theatre sits on the campus of Mary Immaculate College on Courtbrack Avenue, on the south side of Limerick city. Limerick is on the M7 from Dublin (roughly two hours) and on the M20 from Cork (around an hour and a half). Limerick’s Colbert Station is served by trains from Dublin Heuston, Cork and Ennis, and is a short taxi or bus ride from the venue. Bus Eireann runs services into Limerick from across Munster and beyond. Parking is available on the MIC campus and on surrounding streets.

While you’re in Limerick

Limerick has changed a great deal over the past decade - the city centre around Arthur’s Quay, the Hunt Museum and the medieval quarter around King John’s Castle all reward a wander before the show. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
