At The Longford Arms Hotel · Main Street, Longford, Co. Longford
Every four years, descendants of the Farrell family travel to their ancestral county for a five-day gathering of genealogy, heritage and celebration. The 10th International Farrell Clan Rally runs from Monday 20 to Friday 24 July 2026, based at the Longford Arms Hotel on Main Street. The week’s centrepiece is the formal inauguration of a new Chieftain, Charlotte O’Ferrall, who takes over from her father Conal, who has led the clan since 1993. Confirmed attendees are travelling from Australia, Argentina, Canada, the United States, Catalonia and Great Britain.
Registration and a Failte reception open the rally on Monday afternoon at the Longford Arms Hotel. Tuesday is given over to the Chieftain Inauguration Ceremony, the formal handover of clan leadership to Charlotte O’Ferrall. Wednesday’s South Longford Tour departs from outside Lidl on the Dublin Road and takes in Corlea Trackway, Keenagh’s Clock Tower, the former Mosstown Estate and the local Church of Ireland. Thursday is a day trip to the National Famine Museum at Strokestown Park House, just across the Roscommon border. The week closes on Friday with the Grand Finale, an ambassadors’ meeting on ancestry and genealogy followed by a closing banquet at the Longford Arms Hotel. Expect clan colours, a parade of nations through the town, and a strong social programme built around shared surname history rather than ticketed entertainment.
The Longford Arms Hotel is on Main Street in the centre of Longford town, a short walk from the train station on the Dublin Heuston to Sligo line. Longford town sits on the N4, roughly an hour and fifteen minutes from Dublin by road. Wednesday’s tour departs by coach from outside Lidl on the Dublin Road; check with the clan secretary for pick-up details.
Rally week is a good excuse to explore the county the Farrells called home for centuries. The Wednesday tour already covers Corlea Trackway and Keenagh, but the town itself rewards a wander too, with its Georgian streets and the River Camlin running through the centre. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
