Clonguish vs St Mary's Granard

At Glennon Brothers Pearse Park · Lisbrack Road, Longford, Co. Longford

Longford Senior Football Championship club fixture

Round 2 of Group B brings Clonguish and St Mary’s Granard together in the 2026 Longford Senior Football Championship, a Thursday-night fixture that follows on from round 1 results across the group. Clonguish had the bye in round 1 while St Mary’s opened their campaign against Colmcille, so this is Clonguish’s first outing of the championship proper. With Carrickedmond and Longford Slashers also in Group B and only the top four advancing to the knockout stages, both clubs are already looking closely at the group table.

What to expect

Clonguish come into their first game of the group stage fresh, without a round 1 result to carry into this one, while St Mary’s Granard will already have a sense of where their form stands after their opening fixture. That contrast tends to make for an unpredictable game - a well-rested side against one that already has a championship outing under its belt. A Thursday 8pm throw-in keeps the evening free of the bigger weekend crowds, so expect a tighter, more local atmosphere than a Saturday fixture draws, with clubmates and regular Longford football followers making up most of the attendance. Both sides will be conscious that Group B’s bottom two face a longer season, so there is genuine needle to a round 2 midweek game.

Getting there

Longford town is on the N4, roughly two hours from Dublin by car, with direct Irish Rail services from Dublin Connolly to Longford station taking about 1 hour 45 minutes. Bus Éireann also runs services into the town. For a Thursday-evening fixture, parking around the county grounds is generally straightforward, though it is still worth arriving 20 to 30 minutes before throw-in.

While you’re in Longford

A midweek fixture is a good excuse for a proper meal beforehand - Longford town has options from PV’s gastropub on Ballymahon Street to Doyle’s on Main Street for a quieter pint. The county town’s grid of streets is easy to explore on foot in the hour before kick-off. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
