Longford Summer Festival - Community Family Festival

At The Mall, Longford Town · The Mall, Longford Town, Co. Longford

Longford Summer Festival

A free, three-day community festival in the centre of Longford Town, running 24 to 26 July 2026 at The Mall. This is a new event for the town - locally driven, council-supported, and pitched squarely at families. If you have children in tow and want a proper day out without paying for the privilege, this is worth putting in the diary.

What to expect

The festival takes place at The Mall, the well-loved park on the banks of the River Camlin that already anchors much of Longford’s outdoor community life. The aim is to bring the town together over a weekend with children’s entertainment, live music, and cultural performances across the three days. The programme is community-led, which typically means a mix of local acts, youth groups, dance troupes, and performers rather than a polished commercial line-up - the kind of festival where you run into your neighbours and the kids find their feet on a bouncy castle or a face-painting queue.

The council has committed logistical and promotional support to make the event safe and well-run. Full programme details are being finalised closer to the date, so checking the Longford County Council website or their social media before you travel is worthwhile.

Getting there

Longford Town sits on the N4 Dublin to Sligo road, roughly an hour and fifteen minutes from Dublin and an hour from Galway. By road, the town is easy to reach from most of the midlands. The N55 connects it to Athlone and Cavan; the N63 runs south-west toward Roscommon.

By train, Longford is on the Dublin Heuston to Sligo line and has a regular daily service. The station is a short walk from the town centre and The Mall park. Bus Eireann also operates routes through the town on several intercity corridors.

The Mall itself is a short walk from the main street, with public car parking available in the town centre nearby. The park is flat and paved along its walking loop, which suits pushchairs and prams.

While you’re in Longford

The Mall park is itself worth a wander even outside festival hours - the River Camlin walk takes about 30 minutes and has a stone circle sculpture by local artist Gary Robinson at its centre. The town has a compact main street with independent shops and cafes. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
