At St Tiernach's Park · Clones, Co. Monaghan
Longford’s under-18 ladies footballers have reached an All-Ireland final, and the whole county gets to follow them there. Longford beat Limerick in the semi-final at Duggan Park, Ballinasloe, to book their place against Armagh in the 2026 ZuCar All-Ireland U-18 ‘C’ Championship decider. It is the kind of run that does not happen every year for a county this size, and it has given Longford GAA people a proper summer story to follow, with a national title within reach for the county’s next generation of players.
This is a straight knockout final, winner takes the cup, after both counties fought through the group and knockout stages of the ‘C’ grade all summer. Longford’s run has been built on a settled, hard-working panel that got tighter with every round, finishing off Limerick in the semi-final to book their place here. Armagh arrive as the other side left standing after their own campaign through the grade. The ‘C’ final is played at St Tiernach’s Park in Clones, a well-established Ulster GAA venue with a proper stand and open terracing, and while crowds for underage finals are smaller than senior days out, expect a solid following of Longford parents, club mates and county board officials making the trip. The game is streamed live so anyone who cannot travel can still watch.
St Tiernach’s Park is in Clones, Co. Monaghan, close to the border with Fermanagh, reached from Longford via the N4 and N54 through Cavan, a journey of roughly two hours depending on your start point in the county. There is no direct rail link, so this is a car or organised-coach trip; check with Longford LGFA or your club for details of any supporters’ bus being arranged for the final.
If you are not making the trip north, there is plenty to do at home while you follow the score. Longford town itself is worth a visit before or after results come in, with St Mel’s Cathedral and the Táin Trail both within easy reach of Main Street. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
