Trad Sessions at Peadar O'Donnell's, Derry

At Peadar O'Donnell's · 59 Waterloo Street, Derry, Co. Derry, BT48 6HD

Traditional Irish music session

What to Expect

Peadar O’Donnell’s is widely regarded as the heartbeat of Derry’s traditional music scene. The grocer-pub on Waterloo Street hosts live trad sessions most nights of the week, with sessions typically running late into the night. The standard is high, drawing experienced local musicians as well as visitors passing through. The venue itself - preserved with its original grocer fittings, flags and character - is an attraction in its own right. Sessions are largely self-organised and spontaneous rather than ticketed performances.

Good to Know

  • Sessions run most nights - Tuesday through Sunday is typical; Monday quieter
  • Weekday sessions from approximately 10:30pm; weekends from 6-7pm on Saturdays and 5pm on Sundays
  • No admission charge for sessions - this is a pub
  • Connects through to the Gweedore Bar next door, which also has live music
  • One of the best-known trad session venues in Northern Ireland

Getting There

Waterloo Street is a short walk from Derry city centre and the walled city. The pub is about 5 minutes on foot from Guildhall Square.
