Mount Congreve Gardens marks Halloween with Poison & Petals, a 60-minute guided walk for adults through the darker side of its 70-acre gardens, on Thursday, 29 October 2026 at 2:00pm. The tour focuses on the toxic and dangerous plants growing among the estate’s collection, with the folklore and botanical history behind them told along the way.
A guide leads small groups around the gardens picking out species with a poisonous or dangerous reputation, weaving in the folklore that grew up around them alongside the straight botanical facts. It is a walking tour on garden paths rather than a themed attraction with actors or sets, pitched as an adults-only alternative to the gardens’ family-facing autumn events. Capacity is capped at 30 people per tour, and organisers describe the route as moderately demanding, so comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. Guests are asked to arrive by 1:50pm for the 2:00pm start, and the walk runs for about an hour.
Mount Congreve is at Kilmeaden, on the N25 between Waterford city and Kilmacthomas, roughly a 15-minute drive from the city centre.
