At Queen's Film Theatre · 20 University Square, Belfast, Co. Antrim
Every summer QFT puts together a themed season that gives you a reason to keep coming back over several weeks. For summer 2026 the Queen’s Film Theatre has chosen the courtroom. Objection! is a programme of classic and contemporary legal dramas - films that range from Golden Age Hollywood to recent Palme d’Or winners, united by the tension of the dock and the witness stand. If you enjoy films that work through argument rather than action, where drama turns on what is said and what is withheld, this is a season worth planning around.
QFT describes the season as one that “cross-examines borders and genres to explore the delivery of celluloid justice.” The confirmed titles span decades and continents. Witness for the Prosecution (1957) is Billy Wilder’s adaptation of Agatha Christie, starring Marlene Dietrich, Tyrone Power and Charles Laughton - one of the tightest courtroom thrillers ever put to film. A Few Good Men (1992), Rob Reiner’s Aaron Sorkin-scripted drama with Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson, brings the military courtroom to the big screen. Anatomy of a Fall (2023), Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or-winning French-language thriller starring Sandra Hüller, examines what a trial can and cannot prove about a marriage. Legally Blonde, Anatomy of a Murder and A Separation (Asghar Farhadi’s Berlin Golden Bear winner) are also confirmed. New titles are added on a rolling basis, so checking the QFT website regularly pays off.
QFT is at 20 University Square in the Queen’s Quarter of south Belfast, right beside Queen’s University Belfast. From the city centre it is a straightforward 15-minute walk down Dublin Road and into University Road. Metro bus services from Donegall Square stop on University Road, a short walk from the venue. If you are driving from the Republic, the M1 motorway brings you into Belfast from the south and the university area is well signposted from there. Parking is available on nearby streets and in the Botanic area, though evenings can fill up - arriving a few minutes early gives you time to settle in.
The Queen’s Quarter is a good area to spend time before or after a screening - there are cafes, bars and restaurants within a few minutes’ walk of the cinema. There is more to see in Belfast and across Co. Antrim.
