At glor Theatre · Causeway Link, Ennis, Co. Clare
Every Wednesday lunchtime through July, glór Theatre in Ennis opens its doors at 1pm for a free hour of traditional music that has become one of the most reliable pleasures in the Clare arts calendar. The Riches of Clare series has been running since 2005, coordinated by Clare Arts Office, and it draws a loyal crowd of locals and visitors alike - people who want proper trad, played well, in a comfortable seat, at no cost. If you happen to be in Clare on a Wednesday in July, this is an easy decision.
The concerts run from 1pm to 2pm in the main auditorium at glór, a purpose-built arts centre that opened in 2001 and holds up to 485 people for seated performances. The programme rotates through a cast of local traditional musicians - fiddles, flutes, concertinas, accordions, uilleann pipes - performing in the Clare style that the county is genuinely famous for. Fear an Tí Mike Butler coordinates the series, giving the concerts a relaxed but knowledgeable compere presence. There is no formal booking and no ticket to collect. You walk in, find a seat, and listen. The venue also has a café open from 10am to 2:30pm, so arriving a little early for a coffee before the music starts is a sensible plan.
Dates for 2026: 1 July, 15 July, 22 July, and 29 July. Note there is no concert on 8 July.
Ennis is well connected. Bus Éireann runs regular services from Limerick (route 343), Galway (route 51), and Dublin (route 51). The Bus Éireann stop on Station Road is a short walk from glór. A metered car park with 90 spaces sits directly beside the venue and offers one hour free parking - tickets are required between 9am and 6pm.
Ennis is a compact market town with a strong trad music culture year-round, and a midday concert fits naturally into a few hours spent here - the medieval friary ruins, the streets around the market area, and the river walk are all close by. There is more to see in Ennis and across Co. Clare.
