Rockbarton Farmers Market

Rockbarton Garden Centre hosts a farmers market on the second Sunday of every month, setting more than 20 stalls of fresh food into the 18th century courtyard behind the garden centre outside Bruff. It is a smaller, more occasional market than Limerick’s weekly farmers markets, which gives it a different feel, more of a monthly outing than a routine shop, and it draws visitors from Bruff, Lough Gur and the surrounding villages of south Limerick who plan their trip around the date.

What to expect

Stallholders have included Cheese Girls, Culbac Farm eggs, Baking4U, Laura’s Baking, Cookie n’Crumb, Gems Coffee, Lough Gur Pottery and Plant Pup, with much of the food organic and grown, produced or sourced by small producers from around County Limerick. The market runs from 10am to 2pm in the courtyard, a walled 18th century space that gives it a more sheltered, garden centre feel than an open-air market square. On past dates the garden centre has also brought out newborn lambs for children to see, which fits the general family atmosphere alongside the food stalls, and browsing the wider garden centre is an easy way to round out the visit.

Getting there

Rockbarton Garden Centre is at Holycross, just outside Bruff and close to Lough Gur, about 21km south of Limerick city on the road toward Kilmallock. There is parking on site at the garden centre, and the market runs regardless of light showers since much of the courtyard offers shelter.

While you’re in Bruff

Bruff sits an hour south of Limerick with Lough Gur, one of Ireland’s richest Bronze Age sites, just outside the town. There is more to see in Bruff and across Co. Limerick.
