Armoy Livestock Mart - Weekly Monday Sales

Every Monday, farmers from across north County Antrim bring cattle, sheep and the occasional load of machinery into Armoy Livestock Mart, a modernised auction centre run by Daniel McAlister and Son on the edge of the village. It is a working mart rather than a public event, but anyone with an interest in farming life is welcome to stand at the ringside and watch the pens fill and empty as the auctioneer works through the day’s lots.

What to Expect

The sale runs through cattle first, followed by sheep, with machinery and general lots added when there is enough on offer to justify a slot. Entry numbers move with the season - spring and autumn tend to bring the biggest catalogues as farmers move stock on or off grass, while winter sales are quieter. The mart has modern handling pens and a covered ring, so trading goes ahead in most weather. Buying and selling is restricted to registered mart customers, but the sale itself is open to view.

Getting There

Armoy is on the B15 road between Ballycastle and Ballymoney in north County Antrim, about 8km south of Ballycastle. The mart is on Coolkeeran Road, signposted from the village centre, with on-site parking for anyone attending a sale. There is no rail service to Armoy - the nearest station is Ballymoney - but Translink buses connect the village to both Ballymoney and Ballycastle.

The village grew up around an early monastic site, and the 11th-century Armoy Round Tower still stands in the graveyard of St Patrick’s Church on the Glenshesk Road, about two kilometres east of the centre - one of the best-preserved round towers in County Antrim.
