The Ronnie Hawe Monaghan Stages Rally is County Monaghan Motor Club’s flagship closed road motorsport event, run over stages in the north of the county with headquarters at the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan town. The 2026 rally was originally due to run on Sunday, 12 April, but was postponed because of road blockades linked to a fuel price protest that affected competitors, marshals and suppliers getting to the area. It has since been rescheduled to Sunday, 2 August 2026, using the same stages that were planned for the April date.
The rally is a round of the Triton Showers Motorsport Ireland National Rally Championship and the Sligo Pallets Border Rally Championship, bringing national level crews to closed public roads in north Monaghan alongside local and regional competitors. County Monaghan Motor Club, which marks 66 years running events in 2026, has a strong record in this rally in particular, with several of its own members numbering among past overall winners of the event down the years. Competing cars run the stages against the clock, with times added up across the day to decide the overall result, and service crews working on the cars between stages. For spectators, the appeal is the noise and speed of rally cars on ordinary country roads rather than a purpose built circuit, with marshals directing viewing from safe designated points along the route. Regulations and entry details for the rescheduled date were due to be published by the club in July 2026.
