At People's Park · Lower Dargle Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow
Bray junior parkrun is a free, timed 2km run and walk for children aged 4 to 14, held every Sunday at 9:30am in the People’s Park on Lower Dargle Road. It is one of the few dedicated junior parkrun events in County Wicklow, run entirely by volunteers, and it gives younger children a properly organised, low-pressure introduction to running alongside their friends and family.
The course is two laps of the flat, rectangular park, starting and finishing near the football changing facilities, so it is straightforward for young or inexperienced runners to follow. Junior parkrun is open to everyone regardless of ability, with plenty of children walking, jogging or running the distance, and no one is timed against the clock in any competitive sense beyond their own personal result. Children under 11 must be accompanied by a responsible adult who stays for the full event, which makes it as much a family morning out as a run. Volunteers marshal the course and staff the finish funnel each week, and first-timers simply need to register once online, free of charge, and bring their barcode. Results are published after each event on the parkrun website, and regulars build up a personal history of times over the weeks.
People’s Park is just off Lower Dargle Road in Bray, a short walk from Bray’s main street and about 10 minutes on foot from Bray DART station. There is on-street parking near the park, though it can fill up on Sunday mornings, and the town’s other car parks are within easy walking distance.
Bray is Wicklow’s largest town, with its long seafront promenade and Bray Head a short walk from the park itself, so there is plenty to fill the rest of a Sunday morning after the run. There is more to see in Bray and across Co. Wicklow.
