The Last Laugh at Bord Gais Energy Theatre

At Bord Gais Energy Theatre · Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2

The Last Laugh at Bord Gais Energy Theatre Dublin

Three of Britain’s most beloved comedy legends - Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe and Bob Monkhouse - meet in a dressing room, and what happens is one of the more inventive theatrical ideas of recent years. Written and directed by Paul Hendy, The Last Laugh imagines a fictional encounter where the three men talk about life, death, and the strange business of making people laugh. The result is warm, often very funny, and unexpectedly moving. Anyone who grew up watching these performers on British television will find it rewarding, but younger audiences who know them only by reputation will find enough in the performances to understand the affection.

What to expect

The play debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024, transferred to the West End, and has since toured to New York and across the UK and Ireland, collecting five-star reviews along the way. Damian Williams plays Tommy Cooper, Simon Cartwright returns as Bob Monkhouse, and Steve Royle - who reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent - plays Eric Morecambe.

The run at Bord Gais Energy Theatre covers 21 to 25 July 2026. Evening shows start at 7:30pm; matinees at 2:30pm run on 23 and 25 July. Age guidance is 14 and above, and under-16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 18 or over.
