The Monaghan 10 Miler

The Monaghan 10 Miler is an annual road race that starts and finishes at Church Square in the centre of Monaghan town, taking runners out on a loop through the countryside north of town before bringing them back to a finish in front of the Courthouse. The 2026 edition is set for Sunday, 9 August 2026, with a 12:30pm start, and entries are handled through Pop Up Races.

What to expect

The race is run over a course described by past organisers as fast and flat, heading out from Church Square through the town and onto country roads by way of the village of Ballinode before turning back for a finish in front of Monaghan’s landmark Courthouse building. Alongside the 10 mile distance, the event has traditionally also offered a shorter 5 mile option, giving less experienced runners and those building up their mileage a way to take part over the same roads without the full distance. As a summer Sunday road race it draws a mix of club athletes chasing a time and casual runners using it as a training target, with marshals and water stations along the route in the usual road race format. Getting there

Church Square sits in the centre of Monaghan town and is within easy walking distance of the town’s car parks; competitors travelling from outside the town should allow extra time on race morning for road closures near the start and finish.
