Sr Bride Counihan of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Assumption speaks at all Masses in Holy Cross Church, Tramore, on the weekend of Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August 2026, making the parish’s annual mission appeal under the theme “Thy Kingdom Come”. The Little Sisters of the Assumption work with some of the poorest families in Latin America and Africa, and the weekend appeal is the parish’s main opportunity each year to hear directly from a missionary sister about that work and to support it. Mission appeal weekends like this one are a fixture of the Irish parish calendar, with a different missionary congregation typically visiting each year, and the Parish of Tramore and Carbally notes the visit in its newsletter as part of the normal weekend Mass schedule rather than a separate standalone gathering. A retiring collection is taken up at each Mass over the weekend in support of the congregation’s missionary work overseas. The Little Sisters of the Assumption were founded in France in the nineteenth century to bring practical help, nursing and home care to poor families, and Irish parishes like Tramore and Carbally have long supported that work through an annual weekend visit from a member of the congregation rather than through a single national collection.
