What to Expect

The Parish of St Joseph, St Benildus and St Mary in Waterford city, known locally as JBM Parish, organises a Camino pilgrimage on the Portuguese Coastal Camino, walking the final 124km into Santiago de Compostela, departing Monday 28 September and returning Monday 5 October 2026. Fr Liam serves as spiritual director for the group, with parishioner Eoin O’Neill leading the pilgrimage on the ground. Days begin early over the week, with walking starting between 7am and 7:30am, and the package covers flights from Cork to Santiago and from Santiago back to Dublin with a 10kg case plus a small backpack, coach transfers, daily bag transfers between overnight stops and evening dinners along the route. Spaces are strictly limited to 14 pilgrims, and the parish office says they are expected to fill quickly once booking opens. JBM Parish brings together the three Waterford city churches of St Joseph, St Benildus and St Mary under one parish office, and a group pilgrimage of this kind, part fitness challenge and part shared retreat, has become a regular feature of its calendar for parishioners looking for something more active than a bus pilgrimage to a shrine.

Getting There

Pilgrims travel as a group, flying out of Cork Airport to Santiago de Compostela and returning into Dublin Airport at the end of the week. The JBM Parish office in Waterford city handles all bookings and travel arrangements.
