Culture Night returns across Ireland on Friday, 18 September 2026, and Westmeath’s libraries and cultural venues take part with an evening of free events open to all. In Athlone, the Midland Photography Club exhibition opens in Athlone Library, running for three weeks from the preceding Tuesday, while Westmeath Libraries also hosts a live-streamed music session on its Facebook page in the evening.
Culture Night is a single national evening when museums, galleries, libraries and artists’ studios open their doors for free, later than usual, with no ticket required. In Westmeath, Athlone Library’s contribution is the Midland Photography Club exhibition, which opens on Tuesday 15 September and stays up for three weeks so it can be seen beyond the night itself during normal library hours. Separately, Westmeath Libraries streams a music session titled Sing a Song with singer-songwriter Noel O’Farrell at 4pm on its Facebook page, giving people who cannot get to a venue in person a way to join in. Further venues across the county list their own Culture Night events on the national culturenight.ie website closer to the date, alongside the library programme.
