Mullingar Metal Night Pt2

At Clarke's Bar · Mullingar, Co. Westmeath

Metal music night event

Clarke’s Bar in Mullingar has become the unlikely but entirely fitting home for heavy metal in the Irish Midlands, and the second instalment of the Mullingar Metal Night series picks up where April’s packed-out Part 1 left off. If you were there for the first night - or you missed it and heard about it afterwards - this is the event to put in the diary. It suits fans of heavy metal who want a proper gig in a proper bar, without the bus journey to Dublin.

What to expect

The Mullingar Metal Night series is organised by Farfetchedpromotionsire, a promoter who has been bringing live metal to the region with real intent. The April Part 1 brought together three bands from across Ireland - Toofarfetched (the home-town act), Unmaker from Dublin, and Praelium from Limerick - and drew a strong crowd for a first outing. Part 2 continues the format: multiple live acts performing through the evening in the downstairs music space at Clarke’s Bar.

Clarke’s Bar is not a concert hall, and that is the point. It is a working Irish pub with a dedicated live music area, and the intimacy of the space puts you close to the stage. Expect loud, full-band performances, a bar that keeps the pints flowing, and a crowd who know the genre. Doors are at 7pm, giving you time to settle in before the first band hits.

Check the Eventbrite listing closer to the date for the confirmed line-up for Part 2 - the organisers typically announce bands in the weeks beforehand.

Getting there

Mullingar sits on the N4, roughly 80km from Dublin - just over an hour by car on a Friday evening. Irish Rail runs regular services from Dublin Connolly and Pearse to Mullingar station, with the town centre a short walk from the platform. If you are coming from Athlone or Longford, the N55 brings you in directly.

Clarke’s Bar is in the town centre, which makes it easy to reach on foot if you are already in Mullingar. If you are driving from outside town, there are car parks within a few minutes’ walk. Given it is a Friday night, arrive with time to spare and plan your way home before the music starts - taxis in the town are in demand later in the evening.

While you’re in Mullingar

Mullingar is a busy market town with plenty of options for food before a gig, and the area around the town centre has a good mix of pubs and restaurants. There is more to see in Mullingar and across Co. Westmeath.
