Westmeath Senior Football Championship - Section A Round 1

At TEG Cusack Park · Friars Mill Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath

Gaelic football championship match at TEG Cusack Park

Westmeath’s Senior Football Championship group stage continues at TEG Cusack Park on Saturday, 25 July 2026, with two Section A fixtures back to back. Garrycastle face Coralstown-Kinnegad at 5:30pm, followed by The Downs against St Loman’s Mullingar at 7:15pm. Both games form round one of this year’s Section A group, the top tier of Westmeath club football, where four teams play each other with the top finishers going through to the knockout stages. The pairings and throw-in times were confirmed by the county board in the first week of July.

What to expect

TEG Cusack Park is Westmeath GAA’s principal stadium, the same ground used for the county’s National League and Championship fixtures, so club sides play their biggest games of the season on a full county surface with covered stand seating. A Section A doubleheader means an extended evening of football, with supporters from four different clubs passing through the turnstiles across the two matches. Garrycastle, from the Athlone side of the county, travel to Mullingar for the first game, while the second throws in a local Mullingar derby between The Downs and St Loman’s, two clubs from the same town who know each other well from league meetings. Section A is regarded as the more open of the two senior groups this year, with results shaping seeding for the county quarter-finals later in the championship. Expect a stewarded gate, programme sellers and a strong club following from all four parishes.

Getting there

TEG Cusack Park is on Friars Mill Road on the eastern edge of Mullingar town, a short walk from the town centre and from Mullingar railway station, which has regular Intercity services from Dublin Connolly and from Sligo. Bus Éireann services from Dublin, Athlone and Longford also stop in Mullingar town centre. Parking is available in and around the grounds but fills quickly before a doubleheader, so arriving before the first throw-in is advisable.

While you’re in Mullingar

Mullingar is the county town of Westmeath, with the Royal Canal greenway and Belvedere House and Gardens both close by if you want to make a day of the trip before throw-in. The town centre has plenty of pubs and cafes within walking distance of Cusack Park for food before or after the football. There is more to see in Mullingar and across Co. Westmeath.
