The K10K - Kiltale GAA 5K & 10K

At Kiltale GAA · Kiltale, Meath/Westmeath border

The K10K - Kiltale 5k and 10k run

An evening run on the Meath/Westmeath border that finishes with a BBQ and live music - the K10K at Kiltale GAA is one of those community events that genuinely earns its reputation. Organised by Kiltale GAA, the run raises funds for Irish Motor Neuron Disease and draws runners of all abilities out to the club grounds at Derrypatrick on a July Saturday evening. Whether you are after a personal best or simply a reason to get out and move, the choice of 5K or 10K distances makes it accessible. Entry includes a t-shirt, medal and access to the post-race BBQ, so it is a full evening rather than just a race.

What to expect

Both distances start at 7:30pm, with registration and number collection opening from 6:00pm, giving plenty of time to collect your bib and warm up. The 10K is the flagship distance - Kiltale’s run has its roots in the Dessie McGann Kiltale 10K, named after a local running figure, and that spirit of community and friendly competition carries through to this rebranded edition. The 5K makes the event open to runners who are building fitness or want something shorter.

Entry is €30 (plus a small booking fee) for both the 5K and 10K, and that covers your t-shirt, finisher’s medal, and access to the BBQ and live music afterwards. Under-16s can run the 5K for free, though the medal and t-shirt are not included in the free entry - they can be added for a small upgrade. Parking is available on site and there is plenty of it, so arriving a little before 6:00pm is comfortable. The atmosphere is relaxed and social; the post-race BBQ is as much a part of the occasion as the run itself.

Getting there

Kiltale sits just off the R154 between Dunboyne and Athboy, roughly 10 kilometres north-west of Dunboyne and about 12 kilometres from Trim. From Dublin, the M3 motorway to Junction 5 (Dunboyne/Clonee) is the quickest route, then the R156 and R154 northwards. From Mullingar, take the N52 east towards Kinnegad and follow the R154 south-west - the drive is around 30 minutes. The venue sits in a rural setting, so driving is the practical option for most people. On-site parking is confirmed, and with a 7:30pm start there is no rush-hour traffic to contend with.

While you’re in Mullingar

The Kiltale area sits at the county boundary, within easy reach of Mullingar and the Westmeath lakelands. Royal Canal walks, Lough Ennell, and the town centre are all a short drive away - worth building a wider evening or weekend around the run. There is more to see in Mullingar and across Co. Westmeath.
