At TUS Ennis (Bindon Court) · Bindon Court, Bindon Street, Ennis, Co. Clare
A full week of coding, game-making, and screen-based creativity for children aged 8 to 14 - this is the kind of summer camp that sends kids home talking about what they built rather than what they watched. Whizzkids has been running technology camps on university campuses across Ireland since 2003 and has put more than 30,000 children through its programmes. The Ennis edition lands on the TUS campus on Bindon Street, giving children a proper third-level setting with decent equipment and small groups. It suits children who are curious about how apps and games are made, or who want to try coding for the first time in a low-pressure environment that mixes tech with outdoor and group activities through the day.
The camp runs Monday 20 to Friday 24 July, starting at 9:30am each morning, with parents choosing either a 1pm or 3pm finish to suit the day. Children work in age-appropriate groups with a teacher and teaching assistant keeping numbers manageable and support available on a one-to-one basis when needed.
The programme covers a range of digital skills: coding, Scratch programming, game development, graphic design, animation, and Spy Academy challenges that bring a bit of problem-solving drama to the mix. No two days are the same, and Whizzkids deliberately weaves outdoor and group activities into the timetable rather than keeping children at screens for the full session. By Friday most children will have something to show - a game they built, a graphic they designed, a short animation - which tends to matter more to an 8-year-old than a certificate does.
The TUS Ennis campus building sits on Bindon Street, one of Ennis’s finer Georgian streets, and the recently refurbished interior pairs historic architecture with contemporary facilities. It is a compact campus suited to a camp of this size.
Ennis is the county town of Clare and is straightforward to reach. From Limerick it is about 40 minutes on the M18/N18; from Galway roughly an hour south on the same road. Bus Éireann runs regular services into Ennis Bus Station on Station Road, which is a short walk from Bindon Street. The town centre has several pay car parks and on-street parking nearby on Bindon Street itself, so drop-off and collection should not be a problem for most families.
If you are dropping a child for the week, Ennis is worth more than a quick turnaround. The town has a strong trad music scene, a good market on Fridays, and easy access to the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. There is more to see in Ennis and across Co. Clare.
