At Wexford Arts Centre · High Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford
Wexford Arts Centre runs a regular series of artist talks that pulls back the curtain on how contemporary art actually gets made. These free conversations bring visual artists, curators, and arts professionals into the same room as anyone curious enough to turn up - no art background required. The series runs monthly from July through September 2026, a low-key reason to plan a trip into town and come away with a different way of looking at things.
Each session is an informal conversation rather than a formal lecture. Artists talk about their studio practice, how ideas develop, what materials they work with, and the thinking behind specific bodies of work. Past talks have covered painters, sculptors, textile artists, installation makers, and video artists - the mix reflects the breadth of the centre’s own exhibition programme. The discussions run in association with South East Technological University, which gives them an educational edge without making them feel academic. Questions from the floor are welcomed, and the format is small enough that the conversation tends to go somewhere interesting. Check the Wexford Arts Centre website for each confirmed speaker.
Wexford town is about 1 hour 40 minutes south of Dublin on the N11/M11, and around two hours from Cork on the N25. Irish Rail connects Wexford to Dublin Connolly in roughly two hours; the station is a short walk from the town centre. Bus Éireann and Wexford Bus both serve the town from Dublin and surrounding areas.
The centre is on Cornmarket in the middle of Wexford town. Pay-and-display parking is on Abbey Street directly outside, with 24-hour parking at the adjacent Rowe Street Church car park and underground parking roughly 50 metres away at Whites Hotel. The building is fully accessible - wheelchair access to all galleries, a lift to all floors, and Blue Badge spaces outside on Abbey Street.
The talk is free and typically runs in the late morning, leaving the afternoon open for the waterfront and the narrow mediaeval streets nearby. There is more to see in Wexford and across Co. Wexford.
