At Boucher Road Playing Fields · Boucher Road, Belfast, Co. Antrim
Belfast Vital is one of the longest-running outdoor music festivals on the island of Ireland, and for three nights in August it turns Boucher Road Playing Fields in south Belfast into a proper large-scale concert site. The 2026 edition runs from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 August, with Lewis Capaldi headlining the opening night. It suits anyone who enjoys stadium-scale live music in an open-air setting - festival veterans, casual gig-goers, and people making a short break of it alike.
The festival has been running in various forms since 2002, when it launched near the Botanic Gardens as Tennent’s Vital. Past headliners have included Eminem, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Green Day, and Kings of Leon - the booking standard is consistently high. MCD Productions, who organise it alongside Live Nation, confirmed Lewis Capaldi for the Thursday night on 20 August, with Calvin Harris closing the weekend on Saturday 22 August. Each night is a standalone day ticket, so you can pick the night that suits you rather than committing to the full run.
The site holds large crowds across multiple stages and performance areas. There is no camping at Boucher Road - this is a city-centre festival where you return to your accommodation each evening, which makes logistics considerably simpler than a field-in-the-countryside event. The gates typically open in the afternoon, with support acts through the early evening and the headliner closing out the night.
Boucher Road Playing Fields sit roughly two miles south of Belfast city centre, just off the Boucher Road near Stockmans Lane. On concert nights there are road closures from around 10:30pm on Boucher Road and Stockmans Lane, so driving to the gate is not practical. The recommended approach is to park at Q-Park Victoria Square in the city centre and take Metro Bus 92 towards Boucher Road - the journey runs about 15 to 20 minutes. Translink typically coordinates additional services on event nights; check their website or the MCD promoter page before you travel. Coaches and buses have a designated parking facility at the former fruit market on Boucher Road.
If you are travelling from Dublin, the Enterprise train to Belfast Central takes about two hours, with the city centre a short taxi or bus ride from there. From the north or west, the road network feeds into the M1 and M2 motorways, which bring you close to the city.
Belfast is a city that rewards an extra day either side of a gig. The Cathedral Quarter, the Titanic Quarter, and the revamped city centre all give you plenty to fill the time between sleeping and showtime. There is more to see in Belfast and across Co. Antrim.
