Angela Tuite brings her calligraphy workshop to the Maria Edgeworth Centre in Edgeworthstown on Sunday, 30 August 2026, teaching participants the basics of elegant lettering and hand-drawn script. The two-hour session runs from 2pm to 4pm and is aimed as much at complete beginners as at anyone with a passing interest in handwriting and design, with every participant leaving having made a personalised card in their own lettering.
Tuite, an artist from Westmeath who runs regular art and craft sessions for adults and children, keeps the format relaxed and hands-on rather than technical. She introduces a few core lettering styles and works through the basics of stroke, spacing and rhythm before letting participants apply what they have learned to a card carrying their own chosen message. All materials, pens, paper and guide sheets, are supplied, so nobody needs to arrive with equipment or prior experience, just curiosity and a willingness to try. Spaces are kept limited so Tuite can give one-to-one help as people work, and the session doubles as a quiet, sociable afternoon out for anyone who fancies trying something new. Photography of the session takes place for the centre’s own promotional use.
The Maria Edgeworth Centre is on the Ballymahon Road in Edgeworthstown, on the N4 between Longford town and Mullingar. Parking is available around the town centre, a short walk from the venue.
