At Semple Stadium · Thurles, Co. Tipperary
The Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Camogie Championship semi-finals are one of the sharpest days on the GAA calendar - four counties left in with everything to play for, and a place in Finals Day at Croke Park on the line. If Offaly come through the quarter-finals, they will take the field at Semple Stadium on 25 July as one of the last four senior camogie teams standing in Ireland. That alone is worth the trip. Even if your allegiance is neutral, semi-final day at Semple draws a proper crowd and the standard of hurling - and camogie - played on this pitch is reliably high.
Two senior camogie semi-finals are scheduled for FBD Semple Stadium on Saturday 25 July, with the winners going forward to All-Ireland Finals Day at Croke Park on 9 August. The championship runs across four tiers - Senior, Intermediate, Premier Junior and Junior - and the Senior competition is the elite grade, featuring the country’s top county teams including Galway, Cork, Kilkenny and Offaly. Offaly came through a competitive Group 2 campaign to reach this stage, with tight wins over counties including Dublin underlining that this is a squad with real ambition. Semi-final days at Semple tend to be well-attended, with two matches giving supporters from four counties good reason to travel. Bring layers - July in Tipperary can go either way.
Semple Stadium is in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, not in Offaly itself - so plan for a journey of roughly 50 to 60 minutes from Tullamore by road, heading south via Roscrea on the N62 and N75. Thurles railway station is about a five-minute walk from the stadium and sits on the main Dublin to Cork intercity line, with connections also available from Limerick and Tralee. Iarnród Éireann typically runs additional services - often called GAA Specials - on big match days at Semple, so check the Irish Rail website close to the date. Parking is available at Thurles Greyhound Stadium and along Racecourse Road. Walking from the town centre to the stadium takes around ten to fifteen minutes along well-used routes.
Offaly is well worth a day of its own if you are travelling from the midlands or making a weekend of the match. The county town has a good high street, the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre for a dip into Irish whiskey history, and the Grand Canal for a quiet walk. There is more to see in Tullamore and across Co. Offaly.
