At Whelan's · 25 Wexford Street, Dublin 2
Three sisters from a cattle farm in Georgetown, Georgia making neo-traditional country music that sounds like it was built for a small room - that is The Castellows, and their headline show at Whelan’s on 17 July 2026 marks their first time playing Dublin. Ellie, Lily and Powell Balkcom grew up singing together, and that blood harmony is the thing that sets them apart from the wider wave of American country acts landing in Ireland right now. Their debut EP, produced by Grammy-winner Trina Shoemaker, drew on gospel and bluegrass as much as honky-tonk, and the result is a sound that country fans who know their stuff will appreciate. They came to wider attention supporting Little Big Town and Sugarland, then most recently as part of Luke Combs’s enormous UK and Ireland arena run - so plenty of people in Dublin have already heard them warm up a crowd. This headline slot is the chance to hear them front and centre.
The Castellows write and play their own material, rooted in Southern country tradition but with a freshness that comes from three voices that have been harmonising together since childhood. Expect tight three-part vocals, acoustic-driven arrangements, and the kind of unhurried confidence that comes from having earned their place on big stages before stepping out on their own. The Whelan’s main venue holds around 450 people, which means everyone in the room is close to the stage - the format suits this kind of act well. There will be a support act on the bill, though the name had not been announced at time of writing.
Whelan’s sits on Wexford Street in Dublin 2, roughly halfway between St Stephen’s Green and Portobello. The Harcourt Street stop on the LUAS Green Line is a five-minute walk, and the venue is well served by Dublin Bus routes running along Camden Street and South Great George’s Street. If you are driving in from outside the city, park-and-ride from the LUAS Red Cow terminus is a reliable option on a Friday evening. There is no dedicated parking at the venue itself, and street parking in the area is metered and fills early on show nights.
Wexford Street is part of a stretch of the city - running up through Camden Street and into Rathmines - that has some of the best independent food and drink in Dublin. Worth an hour before the show, or a full evening if you make a night of it. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
