Castletroy Farmers Market

Castletroy Farmers Market sets up outside Castletroy Town Centre every Friday, bringing more than 30 stalls of food and produce to this university suburb on Limerick’s east side. It runs alongside the shopping centre’s regular trade rather than as a separate destination, so it tends to catch students and staff from the nearby University of Limerick as much as local residents doing a Friday shop. It is one of several farmers markets that Limerick.ie lists across the county, and it has become a fixture of the Castletroy shopping week rather than an occasional pop-up.

What to expect

Expect a working market rather than a tourist one: fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, bread, cheese and other local produce from growers and producers across the Limerick area, with stalls changing week to week depending on who has booked a pitch. The market sits in the car park and forecourt area of the town centre, so it is easy to combine with a regular shop at the surrounding stores. Castletroy grew up around the University of Limerick campus from the 1970s, and the farmers market is one of the few fixed weekly gathering points in a suburb that otherwise runs on term time and commuter traffic.

Getting there

Castletroy Town Centre is on the east side of Limerick city, close to the University of Limerick campus and the Living Bridge that links UL to the wider suburb. There is customer parking at the shopping centre, and it is served by regular city bus routes from Limerick city centre and the university.
