At Lucan Spa Hotel · Lucan Spa Hotel, Lucan, Dublin
CéilíCon is the first event of its kind in Ireland - a full-day convention that mashes up traditional ceili dancing with pop culture and cosplay. If you’ve ever wanted to reel your way across a dance floor dressed as your favourite character, this is genuinely the only place in the country that invites you to do exactly that. It’s free to attend and runs for a full seven hours, making it a solid day out for families, ceili enthusiasts, and anyone curious about what happens when you put Riverdance and Comic-Con in the same room.
CéilíCon runs from 9am to 4pm at the Lucan Spa Hotel, with a programme built around ceili dancing, cosplay, and workshops. The convention format means the day is structured - there’s space to dip in and out of different activities rather than a single performance you either catch or miss. The ceili dancing element is hands-on rather than spectator-only; bring a willingness to join in and comfortable shoes. The cosplay angle is entirely optional, but organisers have clearly encouraged it - turning up in an Aran jumper and calling it a costume is equally valid. Families are well catered for throughout, and the free admission removes the usual barrier of not knowing whether it’s worth the spend.
Lucan sits about 13 kilometres west of Dublin city centre on the N4/M4 corridor. By car, the Lucan Spa Hotel is signposted from Junction 4A on the N4 Westbound and has over 200 free car parking spaces on site - a genuine advantage for a family day out. By public transport, Dublin Bus routes 25, 25A, and 66 serve Lucan from the city centre; journey time is roughly 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. The hotel sits on the main road through Lucan village, so it’s an easy walk from the bus stop.
Lucan has a relaxed, residential feel with the River Liffey running along its southern edge and Lucan Demesne - the historic parkland - nearby for a walk before or after the event. The Lucan Spa Hotel itself has been a fixture here since 1891, built above a mineral spring first discovered in 1758. There is more to see in Lucan and across Co. Dublin.
