What to Expect

Christy Moore is one of the defining voices of Irish folk music, a career that runs from his early solo records through Planxty and Moving Hearts in the 1970s and 80s to a solo run that has made him one of the country’s most consistently loved live performers. His songbook mixes his own writing with songs he has made his own over the decades, ballads, political and social commentary, and quieter personal material, all delivered with the kind of storytelling between songs that regular audiences come back for as much as the music itself. Expect a set that moves between guitar and bodhran led arrangements, a crowd that knows the words to most of the catalogue, and a show built on the intimacy of Moore’s delivery rather than production or spectacle, even in a room the size of Leisureland. Demand for these shows is consistently strong, so Leisureland has booked a second date on 18 September 2026 in addition to this one to meet it.

Getting There

Galway city is well connected from around the country, with Irish Rail running direct services from Dublin Heuston in around two hours fifteen minutes and Bus Eireann and Citylink both running frequent coaches from Dublin, Limerick and Cork. From the city centre, Leisureland is on Rockbarton Road in Salthill, on Galway’s beachfront promenade, roughly 2km west of the centre. It is an easy drive or local bus ride from town, with on site parking, and Salthill’s prom is a pleasant walk before or after the show.
