Clarecastle Agricultural Show 2026

At Claremount Showgrounds · Claremount, Clarecastle, Co. Clare

Livestock and show classes at Clarecastle Agricultural Show

One of the stalwart fixtures in the County Clare farming calendar, the Clarecastle Agricultural Show draws competitors and families alike to the Claremount Showgrounds each July. This is a proper country show - livestock in the ring, home baking being judged, children showing ponies they have been practising with all summer. If you have any connection to rural Ireland, or simply want to see what one of these events looks like up close, this is a good one to catch.

What to expect

The show runs across two sites. The main field at Claremount hosts the showing circle - young horse championships, Connemara pony classes, ridden ponies and working hunter pony classes. The Banner Breeders Championship carries significant prize money, and the Shannon Connemara Pony Championships bring serious competitors from across the province. The Cu Chulainn Dog Show runs alongside the equestrian programme.

A free show bus connects the main field to Clarecastle National School, where the exhibit hall is based. Horticulture classes cover vegetables, fruit, flowers and shrubs; home produce takes in baking, jams, chutneys and eggs. Crafts and junior classes include stone painting and a handwriting competition. Prize money has been increased for 2026 and new trophies introduced, so competition is keen. Entries for most classes are made in advance through Its Plain Sailing or via downloadable forms on the show society website.

Getting there

Clarecastle is about 3km south of Ennis on the N18 - follow it south from the town and the village is signposted. Parking is available at the showgrounds. Shannon Airport is roughly 20 minutes further south, making this accessible if you are coming from further afield. There is no dedicated public transport to the show, so a car or taxi from Ennis is the practical option.

While you’re in Clarecastle

The village sits on the River Fergus and has more history than its size suggests - Clare Abbey, the 12th-century Augustinian ruin, is a short walk away, as is the castle that reputedly gave County Clare its name. There is more to see in Clarecastle and across Co. Clare.
