Clogher Diocesan Synod

At St Macartin's Hall · St Macartin's Hall, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh

St Macartin's Hall, Enniskillen, venue for the Diocesan Synod

The Diocese of Clogher holds its Diocesan Synod at St Macartin’s Hall in Enniskillen on Thursday, 24 September 2026, starting at 6:30pm. The Synod is the diocese’s main annual governance meeting, bringing together clergy and lay representatives from parishes spread across Fermanagh, Tyrone, Monaghan, Donegal and Louth to review the year’s business and agree diocesan policy under Bishop Larry Duffy, who leads the diocese.

What to expect

A Diocesan Synod is a formal business meeting rather than a service, though it usually opens with prayer. Clergy and elected lay representatives from each parish in the diocese attend to debate and vote on diocesan business, which typically covers finances, property, clergy appointments and any changes to how the diocese runs its parishes and schools. The Diocese of Clogher is one of the larger geographic dioceses in the Church of Ireland, stretching across five counties on both sides of the border, which makes the Synod one of the few times in the year that representatives from parishes as far apart as Fermanagh and Louth are in the same room. Members of the public are not the usual audience for a Synod, but it is an open diocesan meeting rather than a closed one.

Getting there

St Macartin’s Hall is attached to St Macartin’s Cathedral in the centre of Enniskillen, within walking distance of the town’s Main Street, and close to the bus station and the main car parks serving the town centre.
