At Coleraine Market or Community Venue · Coleraine, Co. Londonderry
Coleraine has a well-established craft market culture, and this summer fair brings it together in fine form. Local makers set up their stalls to sell directly to the public - ceramics thrown in home studios, jewellery worked in small workshops, textiles, candles, printed photography and turned woodwork sit alongside each other under a single roof or across a town-centre site. If you want to pick up something genuinely made in this part of the north coast rather than shipped from a warehouse, this is the day to come. It suits families with young children, anyone looking for a considered gift, and people who simply enjoy a Saturday morning with a good browse.
The fair brings together Coleraine-area artisans selling handmade goods across a broad range of categories. Expect ceramics, textiles, jewellery, woodwork and original art, with at least some stalls offering craft demonstrations so you can watch the process as well as the finished piece. Coleraine has been hosting regular outdoor craft and speciality markets since 2006 - the Causeway Speciality Market, which runs monthly around the Town Hall on The Diamond, has grown into the largest regular outdoor market in Northern Ireland, with up to 50 stalls and a 2024 Best Small Outdoor Market award. A summer craft fair in the town follows the same spirit: local makers, handmade goods, direct conversation with the person who made what you’re buying. Bring cash as well as a card; smaller traders often prefer it.
Coleraine sits at the junction of the A29 and A54 in north County Derry, about 50 minutes from Belfast via the M2 and A26, and around 30 minutes from Derry city along the A2 coast road or the A6 and A29. The town is also served by Northern Ireland Railways - trains run from Belfast Great Victoria Street and from Londonderry, with Coleraine station a short walk from the town centre. Ulsterbus services connect to nearby towns including Portrush, Ballymoney and Ballymena. The Diamond area in the town centre has nearby pay-and-display parking; the Bus Station car park on Railway Road is a short walk and usually has good availability on a Saturday morning.
The town makes a pleasant half-day of it - the River Bann runs through the centre and there are walks along its banks, while the surrounding Causeway Coast is easy to reach for an afternoon drive after the fair. There is more to see in Coleraine and across Co. Derry.
