Coolmine Equestrian Centre - Kids Pony Camps

At Coolmine Equestrian Centre · Coolmine, Dublin 15

Children's pony camp at Coolmine Equestrian Centre

A week on horseback is a different kind of summer for a child. Coolmine Equestrian Centre runs pony camps through the school holidays, from late June to late August, giving children aged four and up their first proper introduction to horses in a structured, safe setting. The camps have been running for over 25 years, which shows in the easy confidence of the instructors and the calm temperament of the ponies. If you have a child who has been asking about horses, this is the natural first step - and if they already ride, there is enough to keep them stretched.

What to expect

Camps are available in half-day and full-day formats, so you can match the booking to your child’s stamina and your own schedule. Each day covers two sides of equestrian life: time in the saddle and time on the ground. Children learn to groom, feed, and tack up their pony before riding, which builds a real sense of responsibility and makes the riding feel earned. Lessons take place in both the outdoor arena and the indoor school, so weather does not dictate the programme.

Groups are organised by age and ability, and the instructors are experienced with nervous first-timers as well as children who have ridden before. No previous experience is needed. The centre holds accreditation from AIRE (the Association of Irish Riding Establishments) and the British Horse Society, so the safety standards are independently verified. Children come away tired in the best way - the combination of physical activity, fresh air, and genuine animal care makes for long afternoons.
