What to Expect

The Annual West Cork Walk is one of Cork Simon Community’s longest-running fundraising events, now in its late teens as an annual fixture on the charity’s calendar. It brings walkers together for a guided route along a section of the Wild Atlantic Way in West Cork, combining fresh air and dramatic coastal scenery with a fundraising purpose. The walk sets off at 10:00am on the day, with participants taking on the marked route as a group rather than individually.

As with Cork Simon’s other outdoor fundraisers, proceeds from the day go directly towards the charity’s frontline work supporting men and women experiencing homelessness across Cork city and county, including outreach, emergency shelter and move-on housing support. The West Cork Walk has built up a loyal following over its many years running, drawing both regular supporters and newcomers to what has become a fixture of the West Cork autumn calendar.

The walk sits later in the year than most of Cork Simon’s other fundraisers, coming after the Sleepout at Elizabeth Fort in October, and organisers pitch it as a way to close out the fundraising year with something more scenic than a sponsored sleepout or a city centre collection. It typically draws a mix of walking groups, workplace teams and individual supporters, with many taking the opportunity to explore a stretch of West Cork coastline they might not otherwise walk.
