County Longford Golf Club Scratch Cup

At County Longford Golf Club · Leader Park, Glack, Longford, Co. Longford

Golfers competing at County Longford Golf Club

County Longford Golf Club stages its inaugural Scratch Cup over the weekend of Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August 2026, a new gross stroke play championship on the club’s Glack course sponsored by Barry Mollaghan PhysioWorks and the DP World Tour. It is played as three separate scratch competitions, Senior, Intermediate and Junior, run as gross stroke play under the full Rules of Golf rather than the handicap formats more familiar to club members, which puts the emphasis squarely on raw scoring ability over the two days. As an inaugural event, this is the first time the club has run a scratch championship of this scale.

What to expect

Scratch stroke play means no handicap allowance, so the winner is simply whoever posts the lowest number of shots across the field, a format that tends to draw the sharper end of the amateur game rather than a purely social entry. County Longford’s course plays to around 6,700 yards off the tips, a par 72 laid out over tree-lined fairways with strategically placed water hazards and greens the club prices among its strongest features, so low scoring will not come easily even to a strong field. Running the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Scratch Cups together over the same weekend gives the club a full programme of competitive golf, with entries booked online or through the pro shop. Being the first staging of the event, the club has pitched it as one of the standout fixtures of its 2026 season.

Getting there

County Longford Golf Club is at Leader Park, Glack, a short drive from Longford town centre. Longford sits on the N4 Dublin to Sligo road, and Longford railway station has direct services from Dublin Connolly, around 1 hour 45 minutes, with a short taxi journey on to the club. On-site parking is available at the clubhouse.

While you’re in Longford

An August weekend at Glack pairs easily with time in Longford town itself. St Mel’s Cathedral, restored after the 2009 fire, sits above Main Street, and Vocellas on Main Street is a solid option for dinner after a round. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
