At Multiple venues across Wexford · Wexford Town, Co. Wexford
A full week of craft running across Wexford town in early August, Wexford Craft Week is one of those events that rewards slow visitors. You are not in and out in an hour - you wander between venues, watch makers at work, pick up a pot or a piece of jewellery directly from the person who made it, and leave knowing where your purchase came from. It suits anyone who is already in Wexford for a few days, and it gives a good reason to plan a trip around it: the programme runs from Monday 3 to Sunday 9 August 2026, so a weekend visit catches the tail end, while a midweek stay gives you the full spread.
The week is organised by Wexford Arts Centre, the oldest regional arts centre in Ireland, which has been running from its home in the historic Cornmarket building since 1974. For Craft Week the activity spills out well beyond those walls into studios, shops, and public spaces across the town.
Demonstrations are the centrepiece - potters, weavers, jewellers, woodcarvers, and other craft workers set up and work in the open, so you can see the process rather than just the finished object. Exhibitions of completed work run alongside them, with makers selling directly in many cases. Hands-on workshops are also part of the programme, and some of these require advance booking; a small fee may apply for materials. The mix shifts each year, but the backbone of the week - live making, accessible exhibitions, direct sales - is consistent.
Local cafes and independent shops around Wexford town often tie in their own events during the week, so the town has a particular atmosphere that is hard to manufacture at other times of year.
Wexford town sits at the south end of the N11 from Dublin, roughly two hours by car. Bus Eireann runs frequent services from Dublin Busaras and from Rosslare Europort. The town’s train station is about a ten-minute walk from the Cornmarket. For Craft Week specifically, events are spread across the town centre and are walkable between each other; the route along the quays and up through the Main Street covers most of what you need. Parking is available in the town’s pay-and-display areas and in the Westgate and Selskar car parks.
Wexford town has strong maritime and Viking roots, and the medieval street pattern is still obvious in the narrow lanes off the Main Street. The Irish National Heritage Park, Johnstown Castle, and Hook Lighthouse are all within easy reach by car. There is more to see in Wexford and across Co. Wexford.
