Dance Before Dark is HOUSE Dublin’s answer to a specific complaint about Dublin nightlife: that a proper dance floor and a late finish do not have to go together. The party runs across a Saturday afternoon, 5pm to 9pm, aimed at an over-30s crowd who want the music and the dancing without giving up the whole evening or the next morning. It is hosted by performer James Patrice, appearing as his character Malahide Woman, which gives the afternoon a broad, campy, party-host energy rather than a straight club set. A welcome cocktail is included in the ticket price, and the promise, per the organisers, is “great music, dancing, and zero guilt the next morning.”
HOUSE occupies a well-known Georgian building on Leeson Street Lower, one of Dublin’s longer-running late bars, and its main room has the scale and sound system to carry a genuine disco party rather than feeling like a bar with a playlist. Given the daytime slot and the built-in host, it functions almost as a hybrid of a club night and a live show, and it has been drawing a loyal, repeat crowd since it started running.
HOUSE is on Leeson Street Lower, a short walk from St Stephen’s Green. The Luas Green Line stops at Harcourt, about ten minutes away on foot, and numerous Dublin Bus routes run along the south city centre nearby. Because the party finishes at 9pm rather than in the small hours, getting home is straightforward, whether that’s an early Luas, a bus, or a short taxi from one of the ranks around St Stephen’s Green.
