Live at the Square - JLS at Ebrington Derry

At Ebrington Square · Ebrington Square, Derry, Co. Derry BT47 6FA

Outdoor concert at Ebrington Square, Derry

JLS return to the stage at Ebrington Square on the Saturday night of Live at the Square, Derry’s biggest outdoor concert weekend of the summer. The Brit Award-winning group - Aston Merrygold, JB Gill, Marvin Humes, and Oritsé Williams - shot to fame on The X Factor in 2008 and have been filling arenas ever since. This is a proper nostalgia night done right: a crowd that knows every word, a group that puts serious work into their live show, and an outdoor venue that has become one of the best concert settings in the north of Ireland.

What to expect

The show is built around JLS’s run of era-defining pop hits - Beat Again, Everybody in Love, Shout, and The Club Is Alive among them. Their live sets combine tight choreography with genuine vocal ability, and the reunion touring years have only sharpened the performance. Expect the kind of show where the crowd does most of the singing and no one minds at all.

Doors open at 6:00pm and the concert is expected to finish around 11pm, so there is a full evening on offer. This is night two of a three-night Live at the Square weekend at Ebrington: James Arthur headlines on the Friday (28 August) and a Big 80s and 90s night closes things out on the Sunday (30 August). The series has sold out in previous years, so booking ahead is strongly advised.

The setting itself is worth mentioning. Ebrington Square is a wide, open plaza on the east bank of the River Foyle, with the city walls and the Peace Bridge visible across the water. On a good August evening there are few better places to be in Ireland.

Getting there

Derry sits in the north-west, roughly 75 miles from Belfast and 65 miles from Sligo. By road, the A6 runs from Belfast and the N13 and N14 from Donegal. Translink operates regular bus and train services from Belfast; buses connect from Donegal town and Letterkenny.

Ebrington Square is on the east bank of the Foyle. From the city centre, walk across the Peace Bridge from Guildhall Square - it takes about five minutes on foot and is a pleasant approach. Parking is available at Ebrington and along Victoria Road. City centre car parks are also walkable.

While you’re in Derry

Derry is a compact, walkable city and an August weekend gives you time to take it in properly. The city walls are among the best-preserved in Europe, Bogside is right there for context, and the food scene around the Guildhall area has improved considerably in recent years. There is more to see in Derry and across Co. Derry.
