Digital, Playing the Music of Joy Division and New Order, at Monroe's Live

At Monroe's Live · Dominick Street Upper, Galway City, Co. Galway

Post-punk tribute band performing on stage at Monroe's Live Galway

What to Expect

Digital take their name from an early Joy Division track, and the show covers both halves of one of British music’s more unusual stories, Joy Division’s stark, doom laden post punk under Ian Curtis, and New Order, the band the surviving members formed after Curtis’s death in 1980, who pivoted toward synthesizers and dance music and became one of the defining acts of that crossover. Expect a set that moves between the two eras, the icy guitar and drum machine of Joy Division tracks like “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and the “Digital” b-side itself, into New Order’s club leaning run of “Blue Monday” and “Bizarre Love Triangle”. It is a genre shift within a single show, from post punk gloom to danceable synth pop, that suits a band with the range to switch between guitar driven and electronic arrangements over the course of a set. Monroe’s Live’s sound system handles both ends of that spectrum well, and it is a booking likely to draw an audience with a strong interest in the Manchester scene the two bands came out of.
