At Enniskillen Castle · Enniskillen Castle, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, BT74 7HL
Enniskillen Castle hosts a free workshop called Digital Storytelling for Community Archives on Monday, 28 September 2026, running from 10am to 4:30pm. The session is aimed at representatives of community groups and shows how local organisations can use their own archive material and photographs to tell stories online. It is led by Danny Birchall, a digital specialist who previously ran digital storytelling work at London’s Wellcome Collection, is free to attend, and includes refreshments and lunch.
The workshop runs as part of Spaces, Places and Belonging: Community Hub, a skills programme supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and hosted at Enniskillen Castle, which is also home to Fermanagh County Museum and the county’s civic archive collections. Participants work through structured exercises on understanding who reads community archive material online and how to shape it into text, image and video stories, with a section on where generative AI tools can help with this work and where their limitations are. The day is built for people already holding onto local archive material, such as historical societies, sports clubs, church groups or residents’ associations, who want practical, repeatable methods for putting that material in front of an online audience rather than leaving it in a filing cabinet or a shoebox. Attendees leave with strategies they can apply directly within their own organisation, and further resources are signposted through the National Archives’ own Community Hub programme.
Enniskillen Castle sits on the western edge of Enniskillen town centre, overlooking the River Erne, within walking distance of the bus station and the main street car parks.
The castle complex is worth building extra time around, since it also houses the Fermanagh County Museum and the Inniskillings Museum under the same roof. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
