At The Sugar Club · The Sugar Club, Leeson Street Lower, Dublin 2
Malaysian comedian Dr Jason Leong brings his “In Laughing Memory” tour to Dublin for a rare Irish date on 17 September 2026. A former medical doctor who traded the stethoscope for the microphone, Leong built this show in response to losing one of his closest friends to cancer. If that sounds heavy, that’s because it is - but Leong is the kind of comedian who has performed at Just For Laughs Montreal and landed two Netflix specials by finding the humour in exactly those places. This is a night for anyone who has sat with grief and needed a reason to laugh anyway.
“In Laughing Memory” is Leong’s most personal show to date. He draws on his medical training, his Malaysian upbringing, and the strange position of being a doctor who understood precisely what a cancer diagnosis meant when it happened to a friend. The result is sharp observational comedy that moves between the clinical and the human, the absurd and the genuinely affecting. Rated 15+ for mature themes and occasional coarse language. Leong is a former winner of the International Hong Kong Comedy Competition - expect a tightly structured hour with a real arc, not a loose string of medical anecdotes.
The Sugar Club is an ideal room for this kind of show. The venue occupies a renovated 1930s theatre on Lower Leeson Street - curved banquettes, velvet curtains, a proper stage, and a cocktail bar on site. Arriving half an hour early is worth it.
The Sugar Club is on Lower Leeson Street, a five-minute walk from St Stephen’s Green in Dublin 2. The Luas Green Line stops at St Stephen’s Green. Dublin Bus serves Leeson Street and Harcourt Street with several routes. On-street parking along the canal tends to clear after 7pm. Taxis are easy to pick up at this end of town.
Lower Leeson Street sits on the edge of Dublin’s Georgian core, close to Fitzwilliam Square and a short walk from the National Gallery - a good part of the city to explore before or after a show. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
