What to Expect

Tales From Acorn Wood is a stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s picture books, brought to the Civic Theatre in Tallaght over two days in late August. The show is built for very young theatregoers, weaving together the Acorn Wood characters through songs, puppetry and interactive, lift-the-flap style staging that mirrors the books’ peek-a-boo format. It is the kind of first-theatre-trip show that works well for toddlers and younger primary-school children who might find a longer production hard to sit through.

There are two performances on each of the two days, an 11:00am and a 2:00pm show, giving families a choice of morning or early-afternoon slots to fit around nap times and other weekend plans. This run forms part of the Civic Theatre’s wider family and youth-focused programming, which continues through the autumn with further shows aimed at children and teenagers alongside its main adult season.

Getting There

The Civic Theatre is on Lord Edward Street in Tallaght town centre, a short walk from the Luas Red Line’s Tallaght stop. Bus routes 16, 49, 54A, 65 and 175 also serve the area, and there is parking nearby in The Square shopping centre.

The venue’s main auditorium is a proper theatre space with tiered seating, which tends to work better for younger audiences than a school hall or community centre, giving every child a clear view of the stage regardless of where they’re sitting. Combining a trip to the show with lunch or a browse of The Square shopping centre next door is an easy way to build a full morning or afternoon out around the performance.
