What to Expect

Rathmines Library runs a free children’s art class every Saturday during term time for ages 5-10, split into two sessions to keep group sizes manageable. The first runs from 10:30am to 11:30am and the second from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, giving families a choice of time slot. Sessions are hands-on and led by library staff, covering drawing, painting and simple craft projects designed to build confidence and creativity without pressure.

Alongside the art class, the library also runs a children’s book club called the Greedy Readers, aimed at readers aged 7 to 12. The club meets on the last Thursday of every month at 3:30pm in the exhibition room, giving young bookworms a relaxed space to talk about what they’re reading, share recommendations and meet other children who love books. Both programmes are free and open to all, reflecting Dublin City Libraries’ wider commitment to free children’s and family programming across its branch network.

As with all Dublin City Libraries children’s programmes, capacity can be limited, so it’s worth checking with the branch directly or via the Dublin City Libraries website ahead of a visit, particularly around school holiday periods when demand is higher. The library itself is a well-used community hub in the heart of Rathmines village, with a strong events calendar covering everything from toddler time to adult reading groups.
