A Thursday evening wine tasting at A Taste of Spain is one of those low-key Dublin nights that tends to stick in the memory. The format is simple: show up, meet other people who like good wine, sip through a selection of Spanish bottles, and graze on nibbles alongside. There is no lecture, no sommelier formality - just good wine in an intimate shop setting. It suits anyone curious about Spanish wine, regulars of the shop, or people looking for a sociable night out that is not another pub.
A Taste of Spain is Ireland’s first dedicated Spanish food shop, founded by Teresa Calvo, a native of Córdoba, and her Irish husband James. The Camden Street shop stocks everything from Iberian meats and artisanal cheeses to cava and Spanish wine, and the upstairs tapas bar - La Taberna 60 - serves the kind of food you’d find in a neighbourhood bar in Seville or Valencia.
The wine tasting runs from 6pm to 8pm, giving you two hours to work through the selection. Expect Spanish wines paired with nibbles - the shop’s range covers the main Spanish wine regions, so you might encounter anything from a crianza Rioja to a Galician Albariño or a Priorat red. Numbers are limited, which keeps the evening relaxed and gives you a chance to actually talk to the people running it. The event is strictly 18+.
A Taste of Spain is on Camden Street Lower in Dublin 8, a short walk from St. Stephen’s Green and well served by Dublin Bus routes along Camden Street and South Great George’s Street. The Luas Green Line stops at Harcourt, a five-minute walk away. If you are driving in from outside the city, parking on Camden Street itself is metered; the Drury Street multi-storey off South Great George’s Street is a reliable option a few minutes on foot.
