Tallaght Festival runs for a full week every August, giving South Dublin’s biggest community a chance to fill its town centre with music, performance, food and celebration. It is a free, outdoor event - the kind of thing where you can wander in on a Tuesday afternoon and catch street performers you weren’t expecting, or settle in on a Saturday evening for live music under the open sky. Families with young children will feel at home, and so will anyone who simply wants to spend time among a lively, unpretentious crowd.
The festival centres on Tallaght Town Centre and stretches across seven days, from 3 to 9 August 2026. Each day brings a different mix of events: live music acts on open-air stages, street performers working the crowds, and cultural events that reflect the area’s genuinely diverse community. Food vendors set up throughout the week, so you can make an afternoon of it without planning ahead. The programme draws on a local arts scene that includes Rua Red, South Dublin’s main arts centre, which sits right beside the Luas stop and regularly supports community-facing events of this kind. Expect a relaxed atmosphere - this is a festival built by and for the people who live here, not a ticketed headline show.
Tallaght is about 12 km southwest of Dublin city centre and one of the easiest parts of South Dublin to reach without a car. The Luas Red Line runs directly to Tallaght terminus - from the Point or Connolly the journey takes around 30 minutes, and from Heuston or Jervis around 20 to 25 minutes. Trams run frequently throughout the day. Bus routes 49 and 50 connect the town centre to the city, and the 54A and 65 serve it from different corridors. If you are driving, Tallaght has park-and-ride facilities at the Luas stop as well as car parks at The Square shopping centre adjacent to the town centre. Parking is generally straightforward outside peak shopping hours.
Tallaght has more going on than a quick visit might suggest. Rua Red Arts Centre runs exhibitions and events year-round, The Square is one of Dublin’s larger shopping centres for practical stops, and the Bohernabreena Reservoir and surrounding hills are within a short drive for anyone who wants a walk after the festival.
